The season began on a damp note yesterday with a draw against XV de Piracicaba. Based on the flow of play, it could have been worse. The Paulista A-2 champions were confident on home soil, and created the majority of the goal-scoring opportunities throughout the game. Even so, we managed to take the lead through Alan Kardec, but lost it at the death as Crystian gave away a penalty.
I suppose the performance shouldn't have been surprising since the reserves took the field (led by Tata instead of Muricy). The holiday hangover was on full display as a number of players simply drifted through the ninety minutes. Only Ibson, Felipe Anderson, Aranha, and Anderson Carvalho really stood out.
Still, there are a couple of factors to consider, foremost of which is that XV de Piracicaba were far more prepared. Another is the makeup of the team, most of which has never played together. Emerson was making his first team debut, and Renteria was playing his first game back from injury.
The next game is against Ituano in Anacleto Campanella and the reserves will be rolled out again. Let's see if they do better this time with a some game time under their belts.
